What are eating disorders?

THE eating disorders (ED) include several pathologies linked to an unbalanced relationship with food. Among the best known are:

  • Bulimia : uncontrollable eating crises followed by compensatory behaviors (vomiting, fasting, excessive exercise).
  • Binge eating disorder : uncompensated eating crises, which can lead to significant weight gain.

These disorders are not no choices or a simple lack of will. These are real illnesses , influenced by psychological, social and biological factors. From a statistical point of view, anorexia nervosa and eating disorders affect on average 1 to 1.5% of women compared to 0.2 to 0.3% of men.
